crockpot pot roast

This is the easiest, most delicious Crockpot Roast recipe in the world! Well, maybe not literally in the world but I sure as shit LOVE IT! And you will too after you try it.

It only requires three ingredients along with a couple of seasonings that just about everyone has on hand on the daily. You toss it in a crockpot and just walk away.

It will literally fall apart when it’s finished, it’s so tender and juicy. There isn’t even any prep involved when it’s finished. Unless you would like to turn the crap it sits in into a gravy, which is super easy as well and FABULOUS (just FYI, I sang the word fabulous, just like Jim Carrey does in How The Grinch Stole Christmas).

Oh Em Gee, my mouth is watering just telling you about it. And I haven’t even said all that much! This is one of those recipes that my whole family loves and I fix on the regular.

Just a little side note to keep in mind when you want to fix this recipe. You better be a morning person because the only down side to making this roast is it takes about 10 hours so cook. Which means, if you want to serve dinner around 6:00 P.M. then it needs to be in the crockpot no later than 8:00 A.M.

For the most part I am a morning person. But there has been that rare occasion where I just forgot all about starting the roast and stayed in bed because it’s just the best place in the world. So I have started laying out everything the night before as a reminder. So far so good.

Shall we begin?

Let’s gather our ingredients.

  • 1 Rump Roast
  • 2 cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • cornstarch
  • milk
the ingredients to make crockpot roast

First things first, get that crockpot out. You will need to use a crockpot that is at least the size of a 4 qt crockpot.

Pour both cans of mushroom soup and one packet of onion soup mix into the crockpot. Mix well.

This next part, if you would like, you can season and sear all sides of your roast in a pan before adding it to the crockpot. I, however, do not. Why you ask? I. Don’t. Want. To. Because it’s 7:00 A.M. and I’m running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off all the while trying to wrangle kids just so we can leave for school on time. I don’t want to take the time to pan sear it. I just don’t and I don’t care. Plus it turns out just as effing fabulous! No complaints from this household.

So if you are like me and don’t have that extra time in the morning go ahead and place your rump roast in the crockpot and season with salt and pepper. Feel free to add whatever other seasonings you can’t live without. But I promise you won’t really need any extra seasoning.

Place the lid on top, set the crockpot to low and leave it alone for about 10 hours.

You are allowed to fast forward it and cook it on high for about 5 hours if you would like. But I never cook anything on high. It makes whatever it is I’m cooking not as tender and so much tougher to cut into. Cooking in a crockpot on high is a big fat thumbs down from me.

After about 9-10 hours it’s done. That’s it. Easy peasy lemon squeezy! Now don’t go and be all judgie with that first picture you see of it finished. Yes, it looks gross but IT. IS. NOT.

Once it’s finished you can move it over to a casserole dish or plate and then break it up or slice it. However you had rather eat it, but we prefer it shredded.

After you move your roast to another dish you can then make some gravy out of the leftover mushroom soup mixture your roast was just “bathing” in.

In a small cup add 3 tsp of cornstarch and 3 tsp of milk. Stir well and then pour that into the soup mix left over in the crockpot. Stir that until it thickens.

And done. There’s your gravy to drizzle all over the roast and mashed potatoes (cause mashed potatoes are a must when you cook a roast).

That looks effing amazing, does it not?! It’s so good. Everyone cleans their plate on pot roast night.

Enjoy!
